President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday appointed Mohamed Mujthaz as a member of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), following unanimous parliamentary approval and in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions governing the commission.
The official swearing-in ceremony was held at the President’s Office, where Supreme Court Justice Hussain Shaheedh administered the oath of office. President Muizzu then formally presented Mujthaz with his letter of appointment.
The appointment was made under Article 180(b) of the Constitution and Article 13 of the Civil Service Act. Mujthaz’s nomination received full backing from the People’s Majlis last Wednesday, with all 71 members present voting in favour—highlighting rare cross-party consensus.
Mujthaz, who holds a Bachelor of Law from the Maldives College of Higher Education, brings with him a wealth of experience in governance and public service. He previously represented Hanimaadhoo constituency in Parliament and served as a state minister at the President’s Office during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
His appointment comes after a vacancy was created in March when the commission’s former vice president, Ibrahim Rasheed, stepped down amid a looming no-confidence motion in Parliament.
The Civil Service Commission, established in 2007, plays a crucial role in ensuring an efficient and professional public service. Tasked with overseeing the appointment and performance of civil servants, the five-member body is central to implementing government policy and upholding democratic governance principles within the state machinery.
