You Deserve Answers: BML Explains Card Safety Measures Clearly

By Ahmed Ashraf Published April 22, 2025

In response to recent social media speculation regarding potential card data breaches, the Bank of Maldives (BML) has issued a statement assuring customers that its systems remain uncompromised.

BML emphasized that there have been no breaches of card details or customer credentials within the bank. The institution highlighted its adherence to international security standards, including the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), and the implementation of multi-factor authentication protocols such as Visa 3D Secure, Mastercard SecureCode, and American Express SafeKey.

The bank clarified that while its systems are secure, global incidents involving compromised merchants can lead to the exposure of card details. Such breaches, often affecting millions of customers worldwide, are beyond the control of individual banks. BML stated that it remains vigilant, working closely with international card associations to monitor and respond to such events.

In instances where compromised card information is identified, BML takes immediate action by deactivating affected cards and issuing replacements to customers. The bank also offers dispute resolution options for unauthorized transactions, ensuring that customers are not held financially responsible for fraudulent activities.

BML reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of security and integrity, aiming to preserve customer trust and confidence in its services.
