Bank of Maldives (BML) has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development by renewing its exclusive nationwide partnership with the Swimming Association of Maldives (SAM) for an additional three years. This extension solidifies BML’s role as a cornerstone supporter of Maldivian swimming, a relationship that began in 2016.
The renewed agreement ensures BML’s continued backing of national swimming programs, grassroots initiatives, and major competitions across the country. Over the years, the bank’s support has been instrumental in organizing events such as the National Swimming Competition, Inter-School Swimming Championships, and the Kids Swimming Festivals, which have collectively engaged hundreds of young athletes nationwide.
“We are proud to extend our partnership with the Swimming Association of Maldives. Over the years, we have seen remarkable progress in Maldivian swimming, and we remain dedicated to supporting our athletes to reach new heights,” said BML CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef.
SAM President Mohamed Abdul Sattar echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are thrilled to renew our partnership with Bank of Maldives. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in the growth of swimming in the Maldives, equipping our athletes with essential resources and opportunities to succeed.”
Since becoming SAM’s exclusive nationwide partner in 2016, BML has played a pivotal role in nurturing local talent and promoting swimming as a competitive and recreational sport. The bank’s involvement has extended beyond sponsorship, encompassing community outreach programs such as beginner swimming sessions for children and support for inclusive initiatives like the Fethun Tharin program, which teaches swimming to individuals with disabilities.
This partnership renewal aligns with BML’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which emphasizes youth empowerment and community development through sports. In addition to swimming, BML supports national football teams, tennis associations, and surfing championships, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to fostering athletic excellence in the Maldives.
As the partnership continues, both BML and SAM are poised to build upon their shared successes, aiming to elevate Maldivian swimming to new heights and inspire the next generation of athletes.
