In a significant move to reinforce diplomatic relations, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has commenced a three-day official visit to India. The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation across various sectors.
Dr. Khaleel is scheduled to meet with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral collaboration. The agenda includes the second meeting of the India-Maldives High-Level Core Group (HLCG), focusing on strategic partnerships in economic development, maritime security, and regional stability.
This visit follows a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. Notably, the first HLCG meeting held in Malé earlier this year laid the groundwork for comprehensive cooperation in areas such as trade, digital finance, health, and defense.
The ongoing dialogue is particularly significant in the context of recent geopolitical shifts and the mutual interest in ensuring a stable and secure Indian Ocean region. Both nations have expressed a shared vision for a resilient partnership that addresses contemporary challenges and promotes sustainable development.
Dr. Khaleel’s visit is also seen as an opportunity to reaffirm the Maldives’ commitment to maintaining strong relations with India, amidst evolving regional dynamics. The outcomes of this visit are anticipated to further solidify the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister is expected to conclude his visit and depart on Tuesday morning.
