The holidays for Hajj Day and Eid al-Adha will be the days that are already designated as holidays in the calendar.”
Holiday Period Breakdown:
Thursday, June 5 – Hajj Day (Day of Arafah)
Friday, June 6 – Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice)
Saturday, June 7 to Monday, June 9 – Eid holidays continue as public days off
The announcement provides clarity for government institutions, schools, businesses, and the general public, enabling citizens across the country to prepare for this sacred time of devotion, celebration, and family unity.
A Time of Reflection and Unity
Eid al-Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) ultimate act of obedience to Allah. It is a moment of spiritual renewal when Muslims around the world gather in prayer, share meals with loved ones, and extend compassion through charity and sacrifice.
In the Maldives, this period is also marked by nationwide communal prayers, family gatherings, and acts of generosity, with thousands participating in traditional rituals and reaffirming their faith.
The administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu continues to place emphasis on preserving Islamic values at the core of national life. By ensuring a well-defined and uninterrupted holiday period, the government aims to create an environment where spiritual obligations and cultural traditions are honored with dignity.
As the nation prepares to observe one of Islam’s most revered festivals, the government has called on all Maldivians to embrace the holidays in the spirit of faith, compassion, and community solidarity.
