Housing Ministry Upholds 15 Nov List—Zero Tolerance for Fraud, Spousal Duplication, and Ineligible Claims

By Ahmed Ashraf Published May 29, 2025

In a decisive move to uphold transparency and fairness, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has reaffirmed its commitment to the original recipient list of the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme, initially published on November 15, 2023. This decision comes after a comprehensive review process addressing public concerns and ensuring adherence to eligibility criteria.

The Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, a flagship social housing initiative, aims to provide affordable housing solutions to Maldivian citizens. Following the release of the initial recipient list, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted an investigation revealing that only 20% of the listed recipients met the eligibility requirements. Consequently, the current administration undertook a meticulous review to rectify discrepancies and reinforce the scheme’s integrity .

Key measures implemented include:

  • Verification of Residency: Applicants must demonstrate continuous residence in Malé for at least 15 years prior to June 26, 2022.
  • Spousal Considerations: In cases where both spouses are listed, only one will be eligible to receive a flat.
  • Land Ownership: Applicants whose spouses have received land under the Binveriyaa scheme must relinquish that land to qualify for a flat under Gedhoruveriyaa.
  • Authenticity of Information: Any applicant found to have submitted false information or forged documents will be disqualified.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the administration’s dedication to ensuring that housing allocations are conducted with utmost fairness and transparency. He stated, “Our priority is to provide homes to those who rightfully deserve them, ensuring that every allocation is just and based on merit.”

The Ministry has also established an appeals process, allowing individuals who are removed from the list to contest the decision. Furthermore, flats vacated due to disqualifications will be reallocated to eligible applicants through a transparent lottery system.

This reaffirmation of the recipient list and the accompanying measures underscore the government’s commitment to addressing housing needs while maintaining the integrity of public welfare programs.

For more information and updates on the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme, citizens are encouraged to visit the official Ministry website or contact the designated helpline.
