In a significant move to support Maldivian pilgrims, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that, starting today, all Maldivians undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage will receive necessary medications free of charge following medical consultations. This initiative was unveiled during his visit to the hotel accommodating Maldivian pilgrims in Makkah.
President Muizzu emphasized that essential vaccinations and medications required for Hajj will be made available at no cost across all inhabited islands in the Maldives. To facilitate this, the government plans to establish the necessary facilities at the island level, ensuring smooth delivery of vaccination services and related support.
During his visit, the President reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing comprehensive support throughout the entire pilgrimage—from the pilgrims’ arrival in Makkah until their return to the Maldives. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Maldives Hajj Corporation in addressing the needs of pilgrims at every stage.
Acknowledging the efforts of the Saudi government, President Muizzu noted the extensive preparations made for this year’s Hajj season. He praised the Makkah Route Initiative, under which Maldivian pilgrims are traveling, for significantly improving convenience and efficiency, particularly in immigration and logistics processes.
The President also mentioned that living arrangements in Mina for Maldivians have been significantly upgraded compared to previous years. A dedicated health clinic has been established exclusively for Maldivian pilgrims, ensuring access to medical care during the pilgrimage. President Muizzu expressed gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continued hospitality and support.
Highlighting the close bond between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, President Muizzu described the relationship as akin to that of siblings—a sentiment he believes should be a source of pride for all Maldivians.
During the visit, President Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed engaged with individual pilgrims, discussing various aspects of their pilgrimage experience and ensuring their needs were addressed.
This year, 1,000 Maldivians are participating in the Hajj pilgrimage, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s religious journey.
