In a coordinated effort with the Authorities, MACL has arranged special logistical support to ensure passengers from the pilgrimage travel process through the airport efficiently and with minimal delay. This includes dedicated staffing, clear wayfinding, and crowd control measures aimed at maintaining seamless passenger flow.

The return of pilgrims is part of a structured schedule: four flights are set to arrive in Male’ between June 13 and June 17. The first group touched down at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time this afternoon, with subsequent flights expected at 11:00 p.m. on June 14, 2:00 p.m. on June 16, and 11:00 p.m. on June 17 . Aircraft from both the national airline Maldivian and Saudi Arabia’s Saudia have been engaged to transport outbound and return pilgrims under the Makkah Route Initiative, which enables pre-departure immigration clearance for Saudi Arabia at Velana International Airport.

Approximately 1,000 Maldivian pilgrims participated in this year’s sacred journey under the official Hajj quota . MACL’s preparations include designated reception zones and dedicated wait areas. The aim is to ensure families are supported during reunions and that arrival logistics proceed smoothly.

In addition, the Maldives Health Protection Agency (HPA) has advised the public to avoid large gatherings at the airport during the next two weeks to reduce the risk of respiratory and other infectious diseases following the Hajj pilgrimage. Routine health protocols including mask-wearing and modest social distancing are recommended for returning worshippers and their contacts.

MACL has reminded non-pilgrim travellers to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to departure and to follow instructions from airport personnel to avoid congestion and flight delays.

This strong collaborative effort between airport authorities, the Hajj Mission, and health officials aims to deliver a dignified, safe, and efficient return experience for all pilgrims, reaffirming the Maldives’ commitment to supporting its citizens during significant spiritual journeys.
