The presidential couple received a formal welcome at Changi Airport by Singaporean officials, including Minister-in-Attendance and Senior Minister of State for Health and Digital Development Tan Kiat How and his spouse, Lady-in-Attendance; as well as Singapore’s Non‑Resident High Commissioner to the Maldives, Soo Kok Leng, alongside his spouse. Maldives High Commissioner to Singapore, Mohamed Luveiz, was also present.
During the visit, President Muizzu is scheduled to meet Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across trade, urban planning, capacity-building, technical expertise, and multilateral affairs. The trip will include the signing of several memoranda of understanding, attendance at a high-level business forum, and engagements with the Maldivian diaspora in Singapore.
Highlighting the economic track record of the two countries, the itinerary features a Maldives–Singapore Business Forum on July 1 at Capella Singapore—part of ongoing efforts to boost investment, tourism, real estate, and renewable energy partnerships.
This state visit, the first by President Muizzu since assuming office in November 2023, also celebrates the golden jubilee of Maldives–Singapore relations. Shared milestones include enduring aviation ties, technical cooperation, and strong people-to-people links.
Since the diplomatic breakthrough in 1975, Maldives and Singapore have developed robust cooperation in areas ranging from aviation and maritime to education and energy. Notably, the 2019 Open Skies Agreement has facilitated up to 20 weekly flights between Malé and Singapore, bolstering tourism and trade .
This visit aims to reinforce that foundation, turning decades of goodwill into new agreements and shared initiatives. High on the agenda are sustainable development, urban planning collaboration, and exploring Singapore’s expertise in port management and vocational training.
As the delegation—which includes senior government ministers—builds on five decades of diplomatic engagement, the state visit provides a definitive platform to elevate Maldives–Singapore relations into a dynamic future of mutual opportunity and connectivity.
