President Muizzu Departs for 13-Island Noonu Tour to Boost Local Development

By Ahmed Ashraf Published July 21, 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has commenced a significant four-day tour of South Miladhunmadulu (Noonu) Atoll, reaffirming his administration’s steadfast commitment to decentralised development and direct engagement with the people. Departing Malé this morning, the President is set to visit all 13 inhabited islands of the atoll—Henbadhoo, Holhudhoo, Lhohi, Kudafaree, Kendhikulhudhoo, Velidhoo, Manadhoo, Magoodhoo, Maalhendhoo, Maafaru, Miladhoo, Fodhdhoo, and Landhoo.

During this milestone visit, President Muizzu will meet with island councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) to discuss local priorities and developmental needs, marking yet another example of his hands-on approach to governance. He will also engage directly with residents to assess their living conditions and identify opportunities to enhance essential services.

In a powerful demonstration of progress, the President will inaugurate multiple government-led development initiatives across the atoll. These include the construction of police posts and modern fitness and recreation centres, alongside the launch of vital infrastructure projects to upgrade schools and health centres.

The Noonu Atoll tour is part of a nationwide series of island visits being undertaken by President Muizzu, underscoring his administration’s determination to deliver equitable development to all corners of the country. His itinerary is designed not just to monitor projects, but to personally connect with citizens, hear their concerns, and ensure that promises made are being translated into action.

Accompanying the President are several cabinet ministers and senior officials, signalling the government’s coordinated and strategic push to accelerate island development.

President Muizzu is expected to return to Malé on Thursday, following the completion of his extensive tour.
