The event, attended by senior government officials, diplomats, and business leaders, marked a new phase in bilateral cooperation aimed at attracting US investment and aligning with the Maldivian government’s economic priorities. US Ambassador Hugo Yon said the new AmCham chapter will act as a bridge between American and Maldivian businesses, offering resources, networking opportunities, and strategic guidance in sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, and sustainable development.

Operating as part of the global AmCham network spanning over 100 countries, the Maldives chapter will provide advocacy, market intelligence, and professional development programs, while also advising the government on key economic policies. “We encourage all stakeholders to get involved in this exciting venture” said Sandun Hapugoda, Country Manager of Mastercard Sri Lanka & Maldives, representing the initial working group.

The initiative comes as the Maldives seeks to strengthen foreign investment to support post-pandemic recovery and climate resilience. Details on membership, structure, and the launch timeline will be announced in the coming months, with the working group pledging regular updates.
