In a significant move addressing the nation’s housing aspirations, government is set to announce the list of beneficiaries for the 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriya Scheme in Hulhumalé. The eagerly awaited press conference is scheduled for today at 13:00, where Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib will present the finalized roster.
During a recent visit to Dh. Hulhudheli, President Muizzu assured residents that the longstanding issues surrounding the flat allocations have been resolved. He emphasized a commitment to transparency, stating that individuals not selected will receive detailed explanations for their exclusion.
“When that list comes out, all the details will be known. If there are people those who don’t receive, it will be very transparently explained why they didn’t receive,” President Muizzu affirmed.
In his Presidential Address earlier this year, the President pledged that the distribution of these flats would commence as construction concludes, with all units handed over to rightful owners by the end of September.
“And as the flats are completed, they will be handed over to the recipients, and before the end of September this year, all flats will be handed over to their rightful owners,” he declared.
The Gedhoruveriya Scheme, initiated by the previous administration, saw over 20,000 applications for the Hulhumalé flats. While an initial list of 15,000 eligible candidates was released, only 4,000 will secure housing in this phase. To expedite the process, Minister Muthalib announced that the government would verify the existing list of 4,000 recipients rather than re-evaluating all submissions. This approach aims to ensure a swift and fair allocation, addressing any discrepancies and maintaining public trust in the selection process.
As the nation awaits the official announcement, today’s press conference marks a pivotal step in the government’s mission to provide affordable housing and uphold transparency in public initiatives.
