A tragic accident on Saturday morning claimed the life of a Bangladeshi man after his vehicle struck a traffic cone on the Hulhumale Highway. According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 8:19 a.m. when the man’s vehicle collided with a cone that had been installed to cordon off part of the Hulhumale–Malé lane undergoing work on solar panels.
The type of vehicle involved in the crash was not disclosed by authorities. Emergency services quickly transported the injured man to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Malé. Despite the prompt medical attention, he was pronounced dead at about 9:05 a.m., a police spokesperson confirmed.
The incident is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the precise factors that led to the fatal collision. Witnesses at the scene described the cone as a necessary safety measure for ongoing maintenance work, though its placement may have inadvertently contributed to the accident.
Officials have yet to release further details regarding the victim’s identity, referring to him only as a Bangladeshi national.
