The latest expansion includes the installation of ATMs in seven islands—Mulah, Naalaafushi, Kolhufushi, Dhiggaru, Maduvvari, Veyvah, and Raimmandhoo—complementing the existing facility in the atoll’s capital, Muli. These 24/7 self-service machines offer both cash withdrawal and deposit services, facilitating convenient banking for residents.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, alongside BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, and other senior officials. Minister Umar highlighted the government’s commitment to improving financial services nationwide, aligning with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to ensure banking access for all Maldivians.
“We are proud to extend our services to all communities in Meemu Atoll, reinforcing our mission to make banking accessible to all,” stated Mohamed Shareef. He emphasized the role of ATMs in integrating customers into the formal banking system and reiterated BML’s dedication to enhancing digital banking services in tandem with physical infrastructure expansion.
This development follows BML’s recent completion of ATM installations across Noonu Atoll, reflecting the bank’s accelerated efforts to fulfill its nationwide coverage goal. Currently, BML operates 39 branches across all 20 atolls, 121 self-service banking centers, 179 ATMs, and offers comprehensive agent banking and digital solutions.
The bank reports over one million transactions and deposits exceeding MVR 1.45 billion through ATMs outside the Greater Malé area this year, underscoring the significant impact of expanded banking services on community engagement.
BML’s initiative not only enhances financial inclusion but also supports the broader economic participation of remote communities, ensuring that essential banking services are within reach for all Maldivians.
