The Chief Executive Officer of the Malé City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, has assured the public that blood transfusion services at the Thalassemia Center remained uninterrupted during this morning’s power outage in Malé and Hulhumalé.
In a post on X, Haleem said the center was receiving STELCO electricity at the time, and when the supply was cut, backup power was immediately activated.
“Blood transfusions were not interrupted. During the power outage, cross-matching had to be paused for about five minutes. The stored blood was not compromised in any way,” Haleem stated.
He also appealed to the media to refrain from spreading false information that could cause unnecessary alarm.
The reassurance comes after concerns surfaced online following the morning blackout, which STELCO later confirmed was caused by a technical fault and has since been fully resolved.
