The handover ceremony took place at VIA, where Acting British High Commissioner Mohamed Toafiq Wahab presented the equipment to MACL’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.

MACL stated that the donation reflects the long-standing partnership between the Maldives and the UK, particularly in the field of aviation safety. The new equipment will improve the airport’s readiness to respond to medical emergencies, ensuring better protection for passengers, visitors, and staff.

Velana International Airport, the nation’s busiest gateway, serves millions of passengers annually. MACL emphasised that enhancing first aid capabilities is a key priority in maintaining VIA’s status as a safe, efficient, and internationally compliant hub.

The UK has been a consistent supporter of the Maldives’ aviation sector, providing assistance in training, operational safety, and infrastructure upgrades. This latest contribution adds another layer of resilience to the airport’s emergency preparedness.
