Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced that the Maldives is on track to receive its 2 millionth tourist of the year by next Thursday. The government had aimed to attract 2 million visitors this year, and as of Sunday, the Maldives has already welcomed 1,978,252 tourists. Minister Faisal, speaking to PSM News, indicated that based on current trends, the milestone visitor is expected shortly.
The minister credited this achievement to the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and industry stakeholders under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Tourism, 103,560 tourists visited in the first 17 days of December, marking a 2.9% increase over the same period last year when 100,652 tourists arrived.
Currently, an average of 6,092 tourists are arriving daily in the Maldives, up from approximately 5,000 earlier this month. To date this year, a record 1.9 million tourists have visited, reflecting an 8.8% rise compared to the 1.7 million visitors recorded during the same timeframe last year.
