“Council cooperation is essential to fulfil Addu pledges,” says President Muizzu

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

President Mohamed Muizzu has called on residents of Addu City to fully support candidates from the People’s National Congress in the upcoming Maldives Local Council Elections 2026, stating that strong cooperation from the city’s council is essential to deliver the development projects he has pledged for the region.

Speaking at the “Greater Addu–Malé Rally” held Saturday night at Artificial Beach, President Muizzu said electing PNC representatives would enable closer collaboration between the central government and the local council to implement development initiatives promised to the people of Addu.

“I appeal to the beloved citizens of Addu City to extend their full support and elect all our candidates in the upcoming Local Council Elections for the future of Addu City,” President Muizzu said.

He stressed that the council’s active role and cooperation are necessary to carry out the government’s plans, adding that recent experiences have clearly demonstrated the importance of alignment between the national administration and local authorities.

“The full cooperation and proactive role of the Council are essential for me to fulfill the development pledges I have made for Addu City. This is an undeniable fact,” he said.

The rally drew a large crowd of supporters as the ruling PNC intensifies its campaign ahead of the April 4 elections, which will determine representatives for councils across the Maldives. Political parties have begun nationwide campaigning as the election date approaches.
