CP Naveen: “Extend a Hand of Sincerity to Every Citizen in Need”

By Ahmed Ashraf Published June 23, 2025

Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen highlighted the critical importance of sincerity and honesty in policing during the graduation ceremony for Inspector Course 4, held at the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement.

Commencing his address, Commissioner Naveen extended his congratulations to all graduates, singling out Sub‑Inspector Nizam Mohamed for securing first position. He described the Inspector Course as an essential milestone for commissioned officers, providing the legal, organizational, and managerial skills necessary to enhance police service delivery. Through this rigorous training, he said, officers are prepared “to responsibly resolve issues in line with modern policing standards.”

At the heart of his speech was a reminder: when citizens reach out to the police during their most vulnerable moments, that help must be offered with genuine sincerity. “They seek assistance when hope dwindles. I urge you to act with honesty and trustworthiness,” Naveen stated.

He also emphasised the need for ongoing professional development beyond formal training. As citizens grow more informed and society becomes increasingly transparent, officers must individually strive for higher standards, discipline, and capable leadership. Graduates were urged to mentor their teams and foster integrity and responsibility within the force.

Commissioner Naveen, who was officially appointed to the role on June 10, 2025, following a rigorous selection process, holds an MBA from the University of Southern Queensland and a LL.B from the University of Northumbria . His rise to Commissioner followed his tenure as Acting Police Chief and Deputy Commissioner, roles in which he stressed public trust and transparent communication as vital to police legitimacy .

In closing, he expressed confidence in the graduates’ abilities and wished them success in their service to the Maldives Police Service.

Inspector Course 4, conducted earlier this year, is a key component in the Maldives Police Service’s efforts to strengthen leadership and community trust through enhanced training and ethical standards.

As these new Inspectors prepare to rejoin field roles across the country, the challenge ahead is clear: applying their training with integrity, leadership, and dedication to public service—principles emphasized at this pivotal ceremony.
