Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has emphasized the profound and irreversible losses faced by victims of cyber crime, urging societal awareness on this critical issue. During the inauguration of Cyber Expo 2024, aimed at fostering a secure digital environment through collaboration and enhancing public awareness about cybersecurity, Commissioner Shujau highlighted the substantial financial losses and irretrievable data damage suffered by cyber crime victims, which lead to significant life challenges.
Commissioner Shujau underscored the necessity for collective efforts to combat cyber threats, advocating for stronger ties between government departments, private entities, various organizations, and educational institutions. He also stressed the importance of nurturing new talent in cybersecurity among Maldivians and promoting interest in this vital field.
At the event, a robot named “Rihi Kakuni” (Silver Crab), developed by five students from Ghiyasuddin International School in partnership with Maldives Women in Tech, was presented.
Held at Hulhumale Central Park, the Cyber Expo is open to government bodies, companies, private enterprises, and professionals. The expo’s objective is to create a safe digital environment through collaboration and elevate public awareness on cybersecurity issues.
Organized by the Maldives Police Service in association with the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, the National Center for Information Technology, and the National Cyber Security Agency, this event benefits from support across multiple sectors.
Prominent attendees included Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, foreign ambassadors, senior police officials, and leaders from various ministries.
