Dhiraagu has directed MVR 678,800 from this year’s Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2025 to 13 partner NGOs working on child protection and inclusion across the Maldives, reinforcing the event’s position as both a sporting highlight and a social impact platform.
Speaking at the prize and donation handover event, Dhiraagu’s Senior Manager for Corporate Social Responsibility said the race theme, “Help Protect Children”, reflects the company’s long term commitment to supporting vulnerable children and promoting their inclusion. The official stressed that Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is more than a competitive run, describing it as a celebration of purpose and community that brings together runners, advocates, and partners around a shared cause.
Participants were invited to nominate a preferred NGO at the time of registration, and Dhiraagu allocated a special grant of MVR 200,000 to be shared among the five most nominated organisations. In addition to this grant, MVR 100 from every runner registration, together with proceeds from special bib number sales, was earmarked for all 13 partner NGOs. These contributions totalled MVR 478,800, bringing the overall donation to MVR 678,800 to help kickstart programmes focused on protecting children and supporting their wellbeing nationwide.
Each of the five most nominated NGOs received MVR 76,831. The organisations are Cancer Society of Maldives, Tiny Hearts of Maldives, Maldives Autism Association, Maldives Thalassaemia Society and Advocating the Rights of Children. The remaining endorsed partner NGOs each received MVR 36,831. They include Child Abuse Prevention Society, Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives, Care Society, Moms Aid, Society for Health Education, The Wheelchair Association of Maldives and Diabetes Society of Maldives.
The company also highlighted the event’s environmental credentials. According to Dhiraagu, this year’s race was powered by renewable energy, with 100 percent of electricity consumption offset, underlining how technology and sustainability can be combined to keep large scale events both exciting and environmentally responsible.
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race remains the first and only international run in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races World Running calendar, featuring a World Athletics certified race route. The company has already confirmed that the next edition of the race will take place on 30 October 2026, signalling continued investment in both community sports and social impact initiatives.
