Dhiraagu has announced a groundbreaking sustainability milestone, confirming that the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2025 was powered entirely by renewable energy. The telecommunications company achieved a 100% electricity offset for the event through a grid-tied solar system, underscoring its growing leadership in environmental innovation and sustainable operations.

100% Renewable Energy for the Nation’s Largest Run
During the event, Dhiraagu’s onsite solar installation generated 1,040 kWh of clean electricity, successfully offsetting approximately 645 kilograms of CO₂ emissions. This achievement reflects Dhiraagu’s drive to merge technology and environmental responsibility, setting a precedent for how large-scale public events in the Maldives can operate sustainably.

Integrating Solar Infrastructure into National Projects
The solar panels used during DMRR 2025 will now be repurposed across Dhiraagu’s ongoing renewable projects. The company currently maintains solar installations on 95 islands, contributing to an annual reduction of roughly 2,053 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Presently, 19% of Dhiraagu’s total energy consumption is powered by renewable sources, highlighting steady progress toward a greener national energy mix.
Continuing the Plastic-Free Mission
Since 2019, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race has also pioneered a single-use plastic-free initiative, encouraging participants and partners to minimize plastic waste. With water refill stations placed throughout the race route, Dhiraagu’s sustainability program has prevented an estimated 18,000 plastic bottles from entering the environment each year.
Reinforcing Corporate Environmental Stewardship
Dhiraagu’s solar initiative and long-term sustainability practices align with the Maldives’ broader environmental goals and the global transition to clean energy. Through such initiatives, the company continues to demonstrate its commitment to emissions reduction, resource efficiency, and corporate social responsibility.
