For the first time, Dhiraagu’s highly anticipated Road Race will be held outside Malé City, with the telecom giant set to host the event in Fuvahmulah on May 2, 2025.
Branded as the Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run, the event is being organized in collaboration with the Fuvahmulah City Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC). Registrations for the race will officially open in the first week of February via dmrr.mv.
Promoting Fuvahmulah as a Running Destination
Speaking at the official launch of the event, Dhiraagu’s Chief Commercial Officer Ali Riyaz described the decision to take the race to Fuvahmulah as a significant step forward.
“We are proud to provide an opportunity to experience Fuvahmulah’s unique natural beauty, colourful culture, and warm hospitality, as well as facilitating an internationally certified running route,” Riyaz stated. He added that the race will help promote Fuvahmulah as a prime destination for runners both locally and internationally.
Fuvahmulah Mayor Ismail Rafeeg also highlighted the significance of the event, stating that it presents an excellent opportunity to showcase the island’s breathtaking landscapes and rich culture. “The city is ready to extend a warm welcome to all participants,” he said.
Dhiraagu Road Race – The Only International Race in the Maldives
The Dhiraagu Road Race is Maldives’ only international running event and is listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS). It is also featured in the World Running Calendar and boasts a World Athletics Certified Route.
Originally launched in 2007, the race has grown into a major sporting event, attracting both professional and amateur runners. With its expansion to Fuvahmulah, the race is expected to enhance sports tourism in the region and create new opportunities for local athletes.
