Former Vice President and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor has urged Maldivian leaders to prioritize practical measures that directly improve citizens’ lives, stressing that true national duty lies in ensuring freedom from hunger, relief from debt, adequate housing, and fair participation in the nation’s economy.
In a strongly worded statement shared on X, Adeeb emphasized that every Maldivian deserves not only a secure livelihood but also access to modern financial tools such as e-wallets and an equitable share of the country’s wealth. He warned against relying on symbolic gestures and ceremonial politics, arguing that the nation’s progress must be measured by concrete results.
“Our ancestors did not speak in lofty words or hide behind ceremonies” Adeeb wrote. “Boduthakurufaanu saved this nation through action, foreign aid, and the love of the Maldivian people. That spirit of decisive action is what we must embrace today”.
Turning his words into a sharp rebuke, Adeeb accused all current political leaders of indulging in hollow rhetoric while neglecting the real struggles of Maldivians. He condemned podium speeches, award shows, and political ceremonies as distractions, insisting that the nation’s leaders have collectively failed to deliver the action and results the people urgently need.
