Several expatriates held at the immigration detention facility in Hulhumalé have been treated for food poisoning, authorities confirmed on Friday.
According to Maldives Immigration, 19 individuals affected by the incident were taken to Hulhumalé Hospital for treatment. In an update on social media platform X, the agency stated that ensuring their full recovery remains a top priority.
Hulhumalé Hospital later confirmed that all affected individuals had received medical care and were in stable condition.
The Maldives Police Service also acknowledged the incident, stating that they were informed of the situation and that officers had been dispatched to attend to the matter.
Authorities have not disclosed further details on the cause of the food poisoning, and it remains unclear whether an investigation has been launched.
