Former Prime Minister of India and senior Congress leader, Dr. Manmohan Singh, has passed away at the age of 92. Dr. Singh was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after experiencing a sudden loss of consciousness at home. Despite the immediate resuscitation efforts made at home and subsequent medical interventions at AIIMS, Dr. Singh could not be revived and was declared deceased at 9:51 PM.
Dr. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year, concluding a distinguished 33-year tenure in the Upper House of Parliament. His political career was marked by significant contributions to the nation, including fostering robust bilateral relations with neighboring countries.
During his tenure as Prime Minister, Dr. Singh maintained a strong diplomatic relationship with the Maldives. His close ties with Maldivian leaders such as former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Mohamed Nasheed, Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, and Abdulla Yameen were instrumental in strengthening the bond between India and Maldives.
