Fenaka launches Addu central power station to end years of electricity issues

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 5 hours ago

Fenaka Corporation has officially inaugurated the Central Power Station (CPS) project in Addu City, marking a major step toward addressing persistent electricity challenges in the region, according to a company press release.

The project was launched during a ceremony held in Hithadhoo, attended by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, along with senior stakeholders including Anglo Belgian Corporation Area Manager Captain Vincent Pirie, Definit Solutions CEO Abdullah Saeed, and Members of Parliament representing Addu City.

Delivering remarks at the event, Fenaka Managing Director Major (Retired) Mohamed Najah said the electricity issues in Addu have remained unresolved for years due to the absence of sustainable long-term solutions. He stated that under the direction of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the government has now taken decisive action, with the project awarded to a new contractor and physical works already underway.

The CPS project is being executed by Definit Solutions and includes the installation and commissioning of modern power generation systems. The facility will be equipped with low-speed engines manufactured by Anglo Belgian Corporation, replacing the high-speed units currently in operation. These European-standard engines are expected to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Upon completion, scheduled for the end of next year, the Addu Central Power Station will deliver a total generation capacity of 26.37 megawatts, providing a long-term solution to electricity shortages in the city.

Fenaka noted that the CPS project is part of broader efforts to improve essential services in Addu, including upgrades to water and sewerage systems. The company also confirmed that construction of two previously stalled Fenaka office buildings will be completed alongside the project, improving working conditions and operational capacity.

The launch of the CPS project underscores Fenaka’s commitment to strengthening utility infrastructure and ensuring consistent, reliable energy supply for communities in Addu City.
