Fenaka powers up four islands with new high-capacity generators

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

Fenaka Corporation has intensified efforts to strengthen electricity reliability across key islands with the acquisition of four new generator sets, aimed at meeting rising demand and safeguarding uninterrupted power supply.

The new capacity includes three 600 kilowatt generators and one 400 kilowatt unit, strategically allocated to L. Isdhoo, L. Dhanbidhoo, B. Kendhoo, and HA. Kelaa. Two of the generators are already en route to their designated islands, while the remaining two units have arrived in Malé and are currently undergoing customs clearance before dispatch.

According to Fenaka, the 600 kilowatt generator designated for L. Isdhoo and the 400 kilowatt unit for L. Dhanbidhoo have been loaded for shipment and are expected to reach the islands by tomorrow. The 600 kilowatt generators assigned to B. Kendhoo and HA. Kelaa are scheduled for clearance today and will be transported within the next two days.

At present, all existing generators on these islands are operating simultaneously to cope with increasing electricity consumption, particularly during peak hours. The addition of the new generator sets is expected to significantly enhance service stability, reduce strain on aging equipment, and improve overall power quality for households and businesses.

Fenaka has been rolling out incremental upgrades across the atolls to ensure sustainable electricity delivery, aligning with the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu government’s broader push to modernize utility infrastructure and strengthen energy security nationwide.
