Fenaka Corporation has signed a new agreement with Definit Solutions to complete the long-delayed Central Power Station (CPS) in Addu City, marking a key step toward fulfilling a pledge made by Mohamed Muizzu to resolve the city’s long-standing electricity challenges.
The agreement was signed by Fenaka’s Managing Director Major (Retd.) Mohamed Najah and Definit Solutions Founder and CEO Abdulla Saeed. Under the contract, the Dubai-based company will undertake the remaining works required to finalize the power station, including installation and commissioning of generator sets.
The project had previously been awarded to Dongfang Electric International Corporation of China. The contract was later terminated after the company failed to make sufficient progress in accordance with the agreed timeline.
The Addu Central Power Station will be equipped with engines manufactured by Anglo Belgian Corporation, a Belgian manufacturer known for industrial power generation engines. Unlike the high-speed engines currently used in Addu’s power system, these European-standard low-speed engines are designed for greater efficiency, reliability, and longer operational lifespan.
Once completed, the facility will have a total power generation capacity of 26.37 megawatts, significantly boosting electricity supply across the city.
Fenaka Managing Director Major (Retd.) Mohamed Najah said the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year and will provide a sustainable, long-term solution to electricity issues in Addu City.
The completion of the Central Power Station is also expected to support economic development and improve the reliability of power services for residents and businesses in the Maldives’ southernmost city, delivering on a key commitment made to the people of Addu.
