Authorities have also announced plans to establish more than 190 polling stations across the Greater Malé region to facilitate voting. The largest number of polling centres will be located in Malé City, where 132 stations will be set up. Meanwhile, 34 centres will operate in Hulhumalé Phase 1, 18 in Hulhumalé Phase 2, and nine in Vilimalé.

The elections are expected to be widely contested, with 1,592 candidates competing for seats in local councils across the country. In addition, 1,368 candidates are contesting positions in Women’s Development Committees, which play a key role in community-level initiatives and social development programmes.

The publication of the final voter list marks one of the final administrative steps before the nationwide elections, as authorities continue preparations to ensure a smooth voting process.
