Fishermen’s Fuel Relief Begins as President Muizzu Inaugurates First Fuel Skid in Dhuvaafaru

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 7 hours ago

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has today inaugurated the first fuel skid in R. Dhuvaafaru, a major step aimed at reducing operational costs for fishermen by ensuring access to fuel at affordable prices.

The facility was inaugurated during the President’s official visit to Dhuvaafaru with First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, where he is attending the national Fishermen’s Day ceremony as chief guest. The launch signals the administration’s continued focus on addressing long standing challenges faced by the fishing community.

According to the government, the fuel skid initiative forms part of a broader policy response to concerns raised by fishermen nationwide, particularly regarding the rising cost of fuel. The project has been entrusted to the State Trading Organization, which is responsible for implementing the scheme across the country.

Under the programme, a total of 18 fuel skids are scheduled to be installed in designated islands across different regions of the Maldives. STO has assured that all announced installations will be completed by the end of March, significantly expanding access to reasonably priced fuel for fishermen.

In addition to the fuel skid inauguration, President Muizzu and the First Lady are also scheduled to inaugurate several development projects in Dhuvaafaru and officially mark the completion of others, reflecting the government’s commitment to accelerating island level development.

The President is accompanied on the visit by cabinet ministers and senior government officials, underscoring a coordinated national effort to strengthen the fisheries sector while delivering tangible development outcomes for island communities.
