The Male’ City Group of Hospitals (MCGH) has marked another milestone in advancing healthcare accessibility with the opening of a new optical shop at Hulhumalé Hospital. The initiative, which aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to expand affordable healthcare, has already seen significant success—1,161 pairs of glasses have been produced since the launch of MCGH Opticals on July 28.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Abdurazzaq Haleem emphasized that the project is part of President Muizzu’s vision to provide high-quality, affordable eyewear to Maldivians. Under the President’s directive, the Aasandha coverage for glasses was increased to MVR 2,000, ensuring that more citizens can access much-needed vision care without financial burden. Haleem also announced plans to extend this service to regional hospitals, noting that discussions with other institutions are already underway.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Haleem praised the President’s one-and-a-half years in office as a period of rapid transformation for public healthcare. Major developments include:
- Establishment of a pediatric ER and a multi-specialty surgical wing at IGMH.
- Addition of 75 beds and the creation of the National Fertility Center at IGMH.
- Upgrading Dharumavantha and Hulhumalé Hospitals to tertiary level.
- Establishing new ICU and NICU units at Hulhumalé Hospital.
- Launching a four-operation theater complex and doubling the Emergency Room at Hulhumalé Hospital.
- Opening a modern dialysis center at Hulhumalé Hospital.
These reforms, Haleem stressed, are a testament to President Muizzu’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the nation’s healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that all Maldivians receive world-class medical services close to home.
With the expansion of MCGH Opticals and the ongoing development of major hospitals, the Muizzu administration continues to deliver on its promise of building a healthier, more resilient nation.
