Mohamed Saeed, the Managing Director of Public Service Media (PSM), has tendered his resignation. Saeed assumed the role last August, following the departure of former Managing Director Zeena Zahir. His resignation comes at a time when several controversies surrounding PSM’s content have come to light.
A significant issue arose with the submission of a motion to the People’s Majlis last Thursday, concerning the omission of Quranic verses during a live broadcast. This motion was brought forward by the opposition party MDP, which claimed that PSM had aired altered versions of the Holy Quran. The Majlis accepted the motion and engaged in a debate on this matter. Saeed attributed the omission to a technical error and stated that employees involved in the incident were dismissed from their duties.
Subsequently, another incident occurred two days later when an inappropriate scene was aired during an English news segment on PSM, leading to the suspension of two employees. These events have raised significant questions about content management at PSM under Saeed’s leadership.
