A group of Travel and Tourism students from Iskandar School visited Terminal 1 (T1) of Velana International Airport (VIA) today, gaining first-hand exposure to airport operations. According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), a total of 88 students took part in the educational tour, which aimed to give them practical insights that will support their studies.
The visit comes shortly after the official opening of the new passenger terminal at VIA on July 26, 2025, coinciding with the Maldives’ Independence Day. The terminal represents one of the largest infrastructure upgrades in the country’s aviation history, built to accommodate the growing number of international travelers.
With the capacity to handle 7.5 million passengers annually, the new terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including aero bridges, self-check-in kiosks, and expanded retail and dining spaces. MACL has said the development is a cornerstone project designed to elevate the passenger experience and strengthen the Maldives’ status as a leading global tourism destination.
By welcoming the students of Iskandar School, MACL not only provided valuable learning opportunities but also underscored the importance of investing in future generations who will contribute to the tourism and aviation sectors.
