The Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to endorse the People’s National Congress (PNC) candidates across all constituencies, with the exception of Maamigili, in the upcoming Local Council Elections scheduled for April 4.
The decision was finalised during a JP Council meeting held earlier today, following extensive deliberations on the party’s electoral strategy. Council members discussed competing options, including contesting across constituencies under the JP banner or extending support to another political party in the interests of broader national direction and stability.
Following detailed consultations, the JP Council agreed that the party would field candidates only in the Maamigili constituency, while backing PNC candidates in all remaining constituencies.
The endorsement further strengthens the PNC’s campaign momentum ahead of the nationwide local polls. The ruling party is set to contest in every constituency and has already finalised its full candidate list after completing internal party primaries.
With coalition-building and strategic unity now shaping the political landscape, the JP’s decision positions the PNC as the central force heading into the April 4 Local Council Elections, signalling a consolidated push for strong local governance aligned with the national development agenda led by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
