MACL DMD Lamaan Hails Staff, Confirms President Muizzu’s Airport Commitment Now Fully Achieved

In a resounding testament to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s leadership and delivery on promises, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has officially confirmed the successful completion of the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA). The terminal is now fully operational and on track for its highly anticipated grand opening on July 26, 2025 — a major milestone in the nation’s aviation history.

Deputy Managing Director of MACL, Mohamed Lam’aan, announced the achievement on Tuesday, stating, “President Muizzu’s most important commitment has been completely fulfilled.” He affirmed that all major construction and systems integration have concluded, with final operational trials currently underway.

Terminal Readiness Confirmed Through Rigorous Testing

As the country prepares to unveil the most advanced air terminal in its history, MACL has commenced full-scale operational trials to ensure seamless readiness for passengers from day one. Key final-stage preparations include:

  • Full Operational Trials: Comprehensive system and procedural testing
  • System Integration Checks: End-to-end validation of advanced terminal technologies
  • Staff Training: Final certifications and operational readiness programs
  • Emergency Drills: Fire safety and emergency response simulations

Deputy MD Lam’aan praised MACL staff for their tireless efforts in executing the final leg of the project. “Our team’s dedication is unparalleled. They are working around the clock to ensure the terminal opens with flawless performance,” he said.
