Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has unveiled the Velana Awards, marking the first dedicated awards programme for the country’s aviation sector.
Introduced by Maldives Airports Company Limited, the annual awards aim to recognise the contributions of partners operating at Velana International Airport who play a key role in expanding air connectivity, raising service standards and reinforcing the Maldives’ position as a premier destination for both travellers and businesses.
According to MACL, the initiative is designed to formally acknowledge the behind-the-scenes efforts that keep operations running smoothly at Velana International Airport, from passenger services to cargo handling and premium lounge experiences.

The inaugural edition of the Velana Awards will feature 22 awards presented across three main categories: Passenger Awards, Cargo Awards and Lounge Awards. In addition, a special Airline of the Year title will be conferred on an airline that has demonstrated outstanding performance and made a significant contribution to the local aviation industry.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on the evening of 12 February at Crossroads Maldives, bringing together industry stakeholders to celebrate excellence and collaboration within the aviation sector.
By launching the Velana Awards, MACL is positioning the programme as a long-term platform to encourage innovation, quality service and stronger partnerships across Maldives’ rapidly growing aviation landscape.
