Maldives Airports Company Limited has officially brought Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport into full operation, relocating all domestic arrivals and departures to the newly designated facility in a major step forward for the airport’s infrastructure expansion.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, alongside cabinet ministers, members of the MACL Board, senior executives, and airport staff who oversaw the transition of domestic services to the new terminal.

The dedicated domestic terminal is designed to improve passenger convenience and streamline travel procedures, as inter island air traffic continues to grow. With domestic aviation playing a critical role in connecting the country’s dispersed atolls, the move is expected to ease congestion at existing facilities and create a more organized passenger flow.
Terminal 2 introduces a range of upgraded amenities aimed at enhancing the travel experience. Families can access a dedicated children’s play area, while passengers will find expanded food and beverage outlets in the boarding zone, including international brands such as Costa Coffee, Dairy Queen, and Gloria Jean’s Coffees.

Newly developed prayer rooms have also been incorporated into the design, reflecting the airport’s commitment to inclusive facilities that cater to diverse passenger needs.
MACL stated that consolidating domestic operations within Terminal 2 will improve operational efficiency and support smoother passenger processing. The transition forms part of broader efforts to modernize infrastructure at VIA and strengthen its capacity to handle increasing passenger volumes.
Travelers flying domestically have been advised to proceed directly to Terminal 2 and to verify flight details with their respective airlines prior to departure.
