Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA), has confirmed that Velana International Airport’s New Passenger Terminal meets all international aviation standards and regulatory requirements, following a comprehensive stakeholder tour conducted as part of the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process.
The statement represents significant validation from the national aviation regulatory authority, affirming the terminal’s compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards ahead of the July 26 opening.
As part of the systematic ORAT process, MACL invited key aviation stakeholders, including the MCAA team. The stakeholder tour encompassed an extensive review of all terminal systems, infrastructure components, and operational procedures designed to ensure operational readiness.
ORAT team specialists addressed all technical inquiries from the MCAA delegation and demonstrated the facility’s alignment with international regulatory frameworks and operational standards.
“Every element of the New Passenger Terminal has been meticulously designed and implemented in full compliance with international aviation standards,” stated Director Rasheed during MACL’s ongoing video series highlighting the new terminal’s capabilities. “This facility demonstrates exceptional adherence to global aviation benchmarks.”
The New Passenger Terminal at Velana International Airport is scheduled to commence operations on July 26, 2025, marking a significant advancement in Maldivian aviation infrastructure. The positive assessment from the MCAA Director reinforces confidence in the terminal’s capability to deliver enhanced passenger experience while maintaining the highest operational standards from day one.
The ORAT process continues with additional stakeholder engagements and operational readiness activities leading up to the facility’s opening.
