In a bid to promote sustainable waste management practices across the Maldives, the Maldives Clean Environment Project recently concluded an intensive three-day training program in Th. Guraidhoo. Held from January 21 to 23, the program brought together representatives from Th. Guraidhoo, Th. Vandhoo, Th. Madifushi, and M. Kolhufushi, equipping them with the skills to foster environmental awareness and implement practical waste management strategies in their respective communities.
The initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Energy (#moccee) with support from the World Bank, focused on empowering participants as educators and change agents. During the training sessions, attendees engaged in hands-on learning experiences, gaining expertise in waste management operations and developing effective community engagement techniques.
Organizers emphasized the critical role of these trained representatives in driving behavioral change within their island communities. By sharing their newly acquired knowledge and skills, these individuals are expected to lead efforts in minimizing waste, promoting recycling, and fostering sustainable living practices.
The Maldives Clean Environment Project is part of a broader national strategy to address pressing environmental challenges. It aims to strengthen waste management systems, enhance community resilience, and contribute to the country’s overarching goals of environmental sustainability and climate action.
This training marks another milestone in the Maldives’ journey toward a cleaner, greener future. With grassroots initiatives like these, the nation continues to make strides in aligning local communities with global environmental standards.
