Public Service Media will lead a national telethon tomorrow in partnership with Maldivian media outlets to raise urgent assistance for Sri Lanka after the island nation was battered by severe rainfall caused by the powerful storm Ditwah. The broadcast will run on Sunday, 30 November 2025, from 9.00 AM to 1.00 AM, aiming to mobilise the entire country in support of a close regional partner facing a humanitarian emergency.
Sri Lanka continues to grapple with extensive flooding, widespread property damage, and a rising death toll as Dithuva intensifies over the region. With thousands displaced and critical infrastructure severely impacted, Maldivian media institutions have agreed that coordinated national action is essential.
PSM noted that Sri Lanka has long stood as one of the Maldives closest and most trusted neighbours, with deep cultural links and a significant Maldivian community living in the country. This long standing relationship, paired with decades of people to people connections, has strengthened the determination of national broadcasters to rally the public behind relief efforts.
All media organisations in the Maldives have been invited to join tomorrow’s telethon. PSM also opened participation to citizens, associations, clubs, companies and institutions, encouraging a united national response to support Sri Lankan families affected by the storm.
The initiative underscores the Maldives commitment to standing with Sri Lanka during one of its most difficult moments, reflecting the enduring friendship that binds the two nations.
