The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has projected that weather conditions will enhance over the next 48 hours. According to their forecast, while a few southern islands might be influenced by drizzle, overall weather conditions will remain favorable. However, the Met Office anticipates that until 18:00 today, several areas in the northern and central Maldives may experience rainfall, with some islands potentially facing heavy rain and thunderstorms. In the southern Maldives, winds are expected to come from the west and northwest, whereas other regions will see winds from the northeast and east at speeds ranging from 8 to 18 miles per hour. Additionally, gusts in northern and central islands could reach up to 35 miles per hour.
The Met Office has indicated that seas surrounding the Maldives will be moderately rough, with potential rough conditions during gusts, and wave heights estimated between four and six feet. Based on Met Office data from the past 24 hours, Male’ recorded the highest rainfall at 142.2 millimeters. Among outer islands, Aa. Mamigili experienced the most significant rainfall with 113.0 millimeters.
The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Media reported today that between 11:37 yesterday and 8:30 today, a total of 30,406 tons of water have been drained from Male’. Additionally, MNDF has distributed 1,550 sandbags to assist 210 households.
