The Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that the ongoing rainy conditions are anticipated to improve after next Saturday. Currently, rain is expected across the Maldives today and tomorrow, attributed to a circulation system in the region. The Met Office warns of continued rainfall, advising residents to remain cautious.
Forecasts indicate that several southern islands may encounter swell waves, while thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely in other areas. Winds will vary by region, with southern and central atolls experiencing westerly and northwesterly winds at 15-25 miles per hour. Northern islands will see winds from the north and northeast at 10-20 miles per hour, potentially gusting up to 45 miles per hour in cloud bands.
Maritime travelers are advised to exercise caution as seas will be rough in the southern and central atolls and moderately rough in the northern ones. Wave heights are expected to range from 3 to 5 feet across the Maldives, with central atolls possibly seeing heights of 5 to 7 feet.
In the past 24 hours, L. Maavah recorded the highest rainfall at 107.7 millimeters. Authorities urge residents to take preventive measures against flooding and wind damage, such as using sandbags and securing roofs with ropes during this period of adverse weather conditions.
