In a midnight ceremony on March 28, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) commemorated its 92nd anniversary with flag hoisting events across the nation. The central ceremony unfolded at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building in Malé, officiated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan alongside Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau. Parallel ceremonies were conducted at various police stations throughout the atolls, symbolizing the unity and reach of the MPS.
Following the flag hoisting, attendees participated in a special prayer and recited pledges, reaffirming their commitment to public service and safety. Reflecting on the occasion, the MPS expressed pride in its enduring dedication, stating, “Today, we proudly raise our flag high as the Maldives Police Service marks 92 years of duty, honor, and service to the nation.”
Established in 1932 under the Police Service Act, the MPS has evolved significantly over the decades. Notably, the enactment of the Maldives Police Service Act in 2020 introduced democratic policing principles, emphasizing transparency and public accountability. This legislation also led to the formation of the Police Board, an independent civilian oversight body ensuring that the police operate in the public’s best interest.
As the MPS celebrates this milestone, it continues to focus on modernization, community engagement, and upholding the rule of law, striving to serve the Maldivian people with integrity and professionalism.
