The national carrier, Maldivian, has announced its plans to acquire a second Airbus A330 aircraft, aiming to further expand its fleet and bolster its international operations.
In a statement released on Thursday, Maldivian invited interested parties to submit proposals to lease the Airbus A330 for a five-year period. The airline outlined the terms and conditions in accordance with the Request for Proposals (RFPI), with submissions accepted until 23:59hrs on Friday, March 14, 2025.
The airline’s fleet already includes its first Airbus A330, which was added on January 6, 2025. This widebody aircraft is currently in operation, servicing three major Chinese routes: Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. The addition of the A330 has enabled Maldivian to extend its reach to these high-demand destinations.
Looking ahead, Maldivian plans to expand its A330 fleet further, with future flights scheduled to serve popular European destinations. This aligns with the recent announcement by Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who revealed that Maldivian will begin direct flight operations to European destinations by October 2025.
The expansion of Maldivian’s international route network is part of President Muizzu’s key pledges, which aim to strengthen the country’s connectivity with the world. By increasing its fleet and offering more direct routes, Maldivian is positioning itself as a competitive player in the global aviation market.
With the addition of a second Airbus A330, Maldivian seeks to enhance its services, provide more travel options for passengers, and further establish the Maldives as a strategic hub for international travel.
