The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that three police officers were injured during last night’s violent protest organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Malé. The injuries occurred as officers worked to restore order after demonstrators defied the approved route and clashed with law enforcement.
According to Police Media, the injured officers include one female and two male officers. The female officer was hurt after falling with her shield and being trampled by protesters who walked over her. One male officer sustained injuries after being struck by a barricade, while another was hurt when participants attacked police shields.
Police confirmed that two officers were treated at Senahiya Hospital and the third at ADK Hospital. All three are currently recovering, and their conditions are reported to be stable.
Authorities reiterated that these incidents underscore the violent and unlawful nature of the MDP protest, which lost its peaceful status when participants ignored repeated police warnings and resorted to aggression.
The Maldives Police Service expressed appreciation for the courage and resilience of officers who continued their duties despite the violence, reaffirming their commitment to protect public safety, uphold the law, and defend national stability.
