PNC Parliamentary Group Leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah has strongly condemned what he described as “slanderous and fabricated” rumors designed to create division within the ruling party.
In a firm statement posted on X, Falah dismissed claims that the PNC PG group could be disbanded, calling such talk a “huge misconception”. He accused political opponents of resorting to malicious tactics, including spreading false stories alleging that opposition figure Abdulla Yameen had bribed Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas with MVR 3 million to sow discord.
Falah’s response came after Abbas made a lengthy social media post claiming deep dissatisfaction among PNC MPs with the government’s policies. In his post, Abbas alleged that 13 to 14 members were prepared to forfeit their seats to leave the party, accusing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of sidelining MPs, neglecting constituency development, and making unilateral decisions without consultation. Abbas — a known ally of MDA leader Sun Siyam — also alleged that government projects were limited to announcements, foundation-laying ceremonies, and publicity, without tangible results.
Rejecting these allegations, Falah reaffirmed that the PNC PG group stands “firmly behind President Muizzu as a united front” and that “no matter how many evil plans are devised by these fools, they will not succeed, God willing”. He also questioned whether the Velidhoo MP met the constitutional requirement under Article 73(a) to be of sound mind, branding such divisive acts as the work of “mindless fools without morals”.
Political observers note that Abbas’s comments appear aimed at undermining public confidence in the ruling party’s unity. The PNC leadership, however, insists the Parliamentary Group remains solidly committed to advancing President Muizzu’s ambitious national development agenda, undeterred by smear campaigns or fabricated narratives.
