MTCC Adjusts Eid Transport Schedule Across Greater Malé Area

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 2 hours ago

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced a series of temporary changes to public transport services across the Greater Malé Area to accommodate increased travel demand during Eid al-Fitr. The adjustments are designed to ensure smooth mobility for residents attending Eid prayers and participating in festive activities.

Bus operations across Malé, Hulhumalé, and surrounding areas will begin later than usual, with general services scheduled to start at 8:00 AM on Eid morning. However, early morning connectivity to Velana International Airport will remain available. Buses from Hulhumalé Phase 2 to the airport will operate between 5:30 AM and 6:35 AM, while services from Malé to the airport will commence at 6:40 AM.

MTCC also confirmed a temporary suspension of Vilimalé bus services between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, aligning with Eid prayer timings to reduce congestion and ensure public convenience.

Ferry schedules have also been adjusted. The last ferry from Malé to Vilimalé before Eid prayers will depart at 6:30 AM, with services resuming at 8:00 AM. Ferry operations between Malé and Hulhumalé will begin later in the day at 2:00 PM, while services to Thilafushi are set to restart after 8:30 AM.

Beyond Eid day changes, MTCC announced a key operational shift for regional connectivity. Starting next Monday, all atoll ferry services currently departing from Henveiru Ferry Terminal will be relocated to Maafannu Ferry Terminal and Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal. The move is expected to streamline passenger flow and improve service efficiency.

Additionally, due to the public holiday declared for Sunday as part of the Eid break, cargo ferry services to Hulhumeedhoo, Feydhoo, and Fuvahmulah have been cancelled for the day.

The revised schedules reflect MTCC’s efforts to balance operational efficiency with public convenience during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
