The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced a walk-interview to recruit part-time drivers for its upcoming Malé Taxi Service, a government-backed initiative expected to begin operations end of next month.
According to MTCC, interested candidates are invited to attend the recruitment walk-interview on Saturday, 17 January 2026, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, at the Maafannu Bus Terminal.
The recruitment drive comes as the government accelerates preparations for its planned taxi line for the Greater Malé region, intended to modernise urban transport and introduce a more structured and accessible service. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen has previously stated that the state-run taxi system will be operated under MTCC, and has highlighted plans for a diversified fleet suited for Malé’s narrow roads, including smaller vehicles.
The government taxi service forms part of broader transport reform efforts, with MTCC previously confirming the initiative aligns with the state’s push for improved public services and job opportunities.
MTCC encouraged motivated candidates to take part in the walk-interview, noting that the recruitment is aimed at building a capable driver pool ahead of the service’s rollout.
