Parliament Member Ibrahim Shujau has said the government remains firmly committed to delivering on its pledges, dismissing claims that development efforts would slow following the conclusion of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections.
Speaking on recent developments, Shujau emphasized that there has been no interruption in the administration’s work, despite opposition assertions made during the campaign period. Critics had argued that government initiatives were largely driven by the election timeline and would lose momentum once voting concluded.
However, the launch of a key infrastructure project in Thaa Gaadhiffushi appears to signal otherwise. Land reclamation work—one of the major commitments pledged by President Mohamed Muizzu—officially commenced this week, marking a continuation of the government’s development agenda.
According to Shujau , the progress on such projects demonstrates that the administration’s focus remains unchanged. He added that citizens are beginning to see the results of ongoing efforts, expressing confidence that further improvements will follow in the coming months.
The Gaadhiffushi project involves reclaiming approximately 11 hectares of land. In a statement shared via social media, President Muizzu noted that nearly 396,000 cubic meters of sand will be required to complete the reclamation. The operation is being carried out using a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) vessel named Filippo Brunelleschi.
Authorities estimate that the reclamation work will be completed within a relatively short timeframe of around 10 days, reflecting the accelerated pace of the project.
Shujau further stated that the government’s broader economic outlook remains positive, pointing to ongoing fiscal adjustments and efforts to manage past financial obligations. He expressed optimism that continued development initiatives would contribute to improved living conditions and economic stability for the public.
The remarks come as the government seeks to reinforce confidence in its post-election agenda, amid continued scrutiny from opposition parties over the pace and sustainability of its development programmes.
